How can it already be March 19? It sure doesn't feel like it. The snow is still two feet deep. Monday morning the temperature was -27 when I got up. And it shows no sign of warming up in the next few days. Sigh.
I keep telling myself that spring has to come sooner or later. Doesn't it? It can't be delated indefinitely. Can it?
I have been torturing myself with memories from our years in Toronto of returning to work after the March Break and walking to school past green yards and blooming crocuses and tulips. I loved the transition of little green shoots to buds, then full blooms. It felt like some days you could stop and watch the leaves unfurl on the trees.
Can you tell what my favourite season is? Something about the fresh start just speaks to me.
When it finally arrives, spring here is pretty wonderful too. It explodes with each day getting noticeably longer (we gain several minutes of daylight a day). One day there is snow everywhere, then it is suddenly rushing to the lakes in streams.
I love the day when we can pack all that bulky winter gear away and pull out rain boots and mud suits. And we all have so much fun exploring the changes in the bush after the snow disappears.
Just a few more weeks. right? Right?

Hi Emily,
Maybe it will console you that Toronto is quite white still this March Break. While it's not frigid here it definitely isn't feeling very Spring-like either. Rest assured Spring will come!
Sue
Someone in our small group up there once said to me, "Spring always comes." I've repeated that phrase several times since. Hang in there. You're right; spring is glorious up there... when it finally comes (minus the wood ticks)
