Painter's Helper

The hardest week of the year for our two kids is the week before school starts.  With both parents being teachers, they are stuck at school full time for that week.  It is often incredibly boring for them.  We try to plan activities to keep them entertained, but there are always at least one day of misery.

This year Jo had lots of fun the past two days.  In fact he said it was too much fun.

The school has had a face lift over the summer with new paint on the whole exterior.  The maintenance crew is madly painting the get the last section finished before the end of the day tomorrow so they can enjoy their weekend.  Yesterday Jo somehow found his way to where they were working.

Mid-afternoon he came inside with relatively new clothes covered in grey spatters.  All bare skin was also covered in grey spatters.  I was a wise enough mother to bite my tongue before bemoaning the ruined clothes.  Instead I smiled at his ear-to-ear grin and obvious delight in being such a good helper.

Today he wore the same splattered outfit to help more.  Tonight I had to comb paint clumps out of his hair.  But the smile on his face as he fell asleep was worth far more than a t-shirt and shorts.
