Bored Games

With the early days of winter comes shorter days.  On school days we leave the house in the dark and arrive home at dusk again.  So outside playtime after school is short for Sprouts.  Since we are a no-game-system family and Sprouts' screen time is limited each day they have sometimes struggled with the "I'm bored" illness.

I am so thankful that in the past two weeks they have discovered a love of board games.  All the games that have been tucked away in the hall closet waiting for a time to shine in family life are seeing heavy use.

On Monday, we had a snow day and Monopoly was spread out on the living room carpet for several hours.  This afternoon it was Blokus with me, then Connect 4 on their own.  They are both old enough now to be able to follow the rules (for the most part), or negotiate their own version of the rules that is satisfying for both of them.

The delight of sitting in the living room as a whole family with Sprouts sprawled on the floor playing together without arguing, my sweetie and I enjoying books or blog reading, and the dog sprawled out asleep brings great joy to my heart this week.

I foresee a pleasant winter.
